Volunteers Week 2017

1-7 June 2017

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place on 1st – 7th June every year. It celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

The Ayrshire Community Trust (TACT) organised their Annual Volunteer ‘OSCARS’ Awards Ceremony at the Lauriston Hotel on Wednesday 7th June 2017. This was an evening of celebration to recognise and reward the tremendous work of Volunteers here in North Ayrshire. We were fortunate to have Robert Somerville volunteer his services as compere for the night and Courtney Kirk volunteer her time to entertain our large audience of over 120 attendees to a few songs. We had over 50 Volunteers and Volunteer Teams receiving certificates on the night with seven category winners and the overall Most Inspiring Volunteer of 2017 picking up their trophy – the winners are detailed below:

· Tremendous Trustee Volunteer – Alan Bell from Scottish Centre of Personal Safety

· Long Standing Volunteer – Bob Lochhead from Scottish Maritime Museum *

· Support to the Community Volunteer – Shelley Elliott from Little Box of Distractions

· Environment and Conservation Volunteer – Bert Bettaney from Eglinton Community Garden

· Art, Culture and Heritage Volunteer – Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society

· Young Volunteers – Ardrossan Youth Association

· Health and Social Care Volunteer – Joint winners Yvonne Attwood from Saltcoats Link Up and Kenny Vallance from Recovery at Work

· Most Inspiring Volunteers of 2017 – Garnock Valley First Responders

Staff at The Ayrshire Community Trust would like to thank our sponsors of this year’s event, Cunninghame Housing Association and North Ayrshire Council – if it wasn’t for their continued sponsorship we wouldn’t be able to acknowledge the tireless effort of Volunteers in North Ayrshire. We would also like to thank Criminal Justice Services for the fantastic awards that they created for all our winners.

We would just like to say ‘Well Done’ to all Volunteers – without your contribution our communities wouldn’t be the same. You are all fantastic!

If you would like any more information or would like to discuss Volunteering please contact our office on 01294 443044 or drop us an email at info@theayrshirecommunitytrust.co.uk

* Unfortunately Bob Lochhead wasn’t available to attend but he will be presented with his Award by staff at The Ayrshire Community Trust at a suitable date.

VIEWS FROM LOCAL THIRD SECTOR ORGANISATIONS

The Scottish Government recognise that the local third sector infrastructure in Scotland is an important part of the landscape and they are focusing on how to improve and strengthen it.  As a first step, the Scottish Government commissioned an independent evaluation of the Third Sector Interface model and Voluntary Action Scotland.

Scottish Ministers have made it very clear that they want to increase the scale and pace of change, and have stated: “We need to disrupt current assumptions about delivery to get the best value for public money and the best outcome for everyone in Scotland”.  They acknowledge that the Third Sector has a crucial role to play in delivering change and they need your help to do it.  Hence the Scottish Government want all 32 TSI’s to discuss with their Third Sector partners and produce a report of the findings by 9th June, 2017.

You will play a key role in shaping a collaborative approach to the provision of services and delivery, both locally and nationally short, medium and long term.  It is crucially important that you have an opportunity to examine how the sector is structured and organised and to input your views. The Ayrshire Community Trust and Arran CVS as partners in the Third Sector Interface in North Ayrshire would invite you to have your say.

The Scottish Government have stated “Third Sector is no longer being seen as passive deliverers of public service outcomes but rather as co-producers, leaders in your fields, agents of change

Please visit our Downloads page and take the time to read the full Evaluation and please take a note of the Recommendations. We would like to capture your views on both the findings from the Evaluation and the Recommendations along with your ideas of how to make change happen in the short, medium and long term both locally and nationally.

Once you have had a chance to read the Evaluation please visit the link below and take the time to complete the short Survey Monkey by Friday 26th May 2017.

If you would like to discuss in more detail please feel free to contact the office on 01294 443044.

Third Sector Conference 2017 – ‘Connecting the Sector’

The Third Sector Conference, hosted by The Ayrshire Community Trust and Arran CVS as the partners for the TSI North Ayrshire, took place on Thursday 30th March 2016, 10am – 2pm, in the Argyle Community Centre, Saltcoats.

The Conference began with the Leader of North Ayrshire Council, Joe Cullinane welcoming everyone and acknowledging the great work that happens throughout the 3rd Sector here in North Ayrshire. Delegates then had the opportunity to network with each other and browse the wide range of Stall Holders in attendance. Throughout the day the delegates were encouraged to attend the varied Presentations that also took place. This enabled delegates to find out more about a range of providers and also partake in a question and answering session. We were also fortunate to have various local and national Funders in attendance to offer advice, guidance and support about a range of funding streams that may have been of interest to the delegates attending.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Conference and provided feedback for future delivery. All suggestions will be taken on board before arranging our next Event.
